DEPARTMENT OF HYGIENE AND FOOD SAFETY
The department at different periods of its existence functioned under various names and was led by a number of scientists: professors P.Yu. Rostovtsev, D.V. Znamensky, associate professors G.K. Kambarogli, H.I. Rahimzade, V. Lipatov, L.M. Chuvatin, M.A. Aliev, I.A. Abbasov, professors E. M. Khalilov, R. B. Rustamov, A. A. Askerov, M. M. Aliyev, associate professors S. M. Tagiyev, R. N. Subsequently, the discipline of pet hygiene was first included in the Department of Microbiology, and then taught at the Department of Epizootology. Then, the Department of VSE and Parasitology was organized (head of the department A.M. Akhmedov).

In 1965, the Department of Zoohygiene, Zoology and VSE was organized, which was led by Professor A.A. Askerov. In the shortest possible time, the department was staffed with scientific and pedagogical staff, and strengthened by the educational and scientific base. Until 2009, Professor A.A. Askerov headed the department. For the first time, the department trained scientific personnel in animal hygiene from among graduates of the veterinary and zootechnical faculty of the institute itself. The staff of the department developed zoo-hygienic norms and regimes for keeping buffaloes, cattle and birds, conducted valuable studies on sanitary-zoo-hygienic assessment of pastures, meadows and water sources and their protection in the conditions of Azerbaijan. Under the guidance of professors A.A. Askerov and M.M .. Aliyev, the department’s employees studied important issues of a number of infectious diseases of farm animals and birds, silkworm, disinfectants and disinfection regimes.

Currently, the department is headed by Professor M.M. Aliyev, all of whose activities are associated with this department. In 1971 and 1993, he completed a candidate’s dissertation (“The influence of the microclimate on some physiological parameters of buffalo”) and a doctoral dissertation (“Physiology of thermoregulation of buffalo”), theses, more than 260 scientific papers (10 of which are textbooks), as well as his achievements in the field of training scientific personnel (4 candidate, one doctoral and dozens of master's theses were defended under his leadership) deserve attention. He is currently the supervisor of 6 doctoral students and a consultant to 2 doctoral dissertations. At the same time, he is the author of more than ten textbooks, manuals and one monograph.

In recent years, the material and technical base of the department has been significantly strengthened, with modern equipment, instruments, reagents, microscopes, computers, projectors and other technical teaching aids. The department has a sufficient number of classrooms, laboratory rooms, a laboratory of pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology and chemistry, physiology, a laboratory equipped with modern equipment, which are used in the educational process and in scientific research.

At the department in sufficient quantities there are educational and teaching aids for the successful conduct of classes. In this regard, the staff prepared training programs in all subjects taught at the department rationally used in the educational process.

The department has wide scientific and educational international relations. Scientific articles by Professor M.M. Aliyev, K.G. Mamedova, T.N. Askerova were published in English, Russian in authoritative scientific journals in Italy, Turkey, Russia, Georgia. Employees of the department (M.M. Aliyev, K.G. Mamedova and others) in recent years participated in the implementation of international scientific projects (under the Erasmus and Movlan program) together with scientists from Ataturk University of Turkey (Erzurum), from Timoshoar Agrarian University (Romania) and from Novoritsy University (Slovenia).

Currently, 21 teachers work at the department, including 1 professor, 3 associate professors, 9 senior teachers and 8 assistants. This includes a teaching support staff consisting of 2 senior laboratory technicians, 4 laboratory technicians, 1 operator and 1 person as a laboratory assistant.
